A translator’s main job is to translate. However, translating is just one aspect the profession.

Following is a description of the services I offer:

First and foremost, the key element of my work is translation:

Translation: the transcription of a text written in English or German into French, using the correct terminology for the specialist subject area concerned, and in a style that resembles that of the original.

Another term commonly heard in the world of translation is localization:

Localization: the translation of documents written in English or German into French, taking into account French linguistic and cultural specificities.

Depending on the nature of your text, you may need it localized. If you’re not familiar with the concept, don’t worry. The process I use when I translate always combines translation and localization to ensure that the translation is adapted to the target readers.

As well as translation, I can also revise and review your texts. It’s really important to make the distinction between these two terms as they refer to specific tasks that shouldn’t be confused:

Revision involves quality checking the translated document(s), with the particular aim of verifying that the target text is aligned with the source text, but also to eliminate grammatical mistakes, misspellings, errors of syntax and typos.

Review checks the translated document(s), but is only concerned with the quality of the target text (syntax, typos, grammatical errors and spelling or careless mistakes).
